El alcalde Mauricio Quiroz se reunió en Valparaíso con el Seremi de Bienes Nacionales (Seremi Bienes Nacionales Valparaíso), Tomás Covacich, para dar a conocer los avances en el proceso de elaboración del expediente para la declaratoria de “Santuario de la Naturaleza” en los sectores cordilleranos de Putaendo.
“Creemos que es indispensable proteger el agua y sus fuentes estratégicas, como son los glaciares y humedales altoandinos. Por eso nos hemos reunido con el seremi de Bines Nacionales y explorar en conjunto las distintas alternativas de polígonos y superficies posibles de ser protegidas.”, manifestó el alcalde Quiroz.
La zona cordillerana a proteger, posee un valor ecosistémico innegable, con especies de flora y fauna únicas y en algunos casos en peligro de desaparecer, de no tomar medidas urgentes para su protección y conservación.
El equipo de profesionales que participó en la reunión de trabajo y que están elaborando la propuesta de Santuario, entregó valiosa información a la autoridad regional, permitiendo dimensionar el territorio cordillerano y sus principales recursos ecosistémico, su importancia ecológica, social e histórica, entre otros aspectos.
Al respecto, el seremi Covacich, junto con valorar la iniciativa, señaló que “iniciamos conversaciones para dar una protección al Río Rocín y poner en el centro este valor patrimonial tan grande para la comuna. Entendemos que debemos poner en el centro el patrimonio natural que tiene para vecinos y vecinas; el valor histórico que tiene para la provincia y para la Región de Valparaíso. De forma mancomunada, tanto con el municipio como con otras institucionalidades públicas para dar protección, que es el compromiso de este Ministerio y de este Gobierno”.
Para el alcalde Quiroz resulta clave que la institucionalidad pública se comprometa con esta propuesta, “por ello seguiremos coordinando acciones con los ministerios de Medio Ambiente, Agricultura, Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología, entre otros servicios públicos. Al mismo tiempo que trabajamos con los propietarios de los inmuebles y con las comunidades putaendinas, ya que este desafío involucra muchas voluntades, algunas de las cuales están fuera de nuestra comuna y provincia”.
